Overcome hay fever without splashing out on pricey remedies with our top tips – The Sun

I’ve been loving the recent sun but the pollen count has had me all bunged up and sneezy, with itchy eyes

In the past I’ve spent a fortune trying to relieve these summer woes — but there are cheaper ways.

Lloyds Pharmacy’s Anshu Kaura reveals a few here . . .

PLAN YOUR DAY: Did you know that adjusting your daily schedule, just a bit here and there, could make all the difference? Many of us find our symptoms are more severe in the morning and evening. This is because pollen levels are at their highest before 11am and after 4.30pm. Avoiding the outdoors during these periods can help to reduce the severity of your symptoms.

KEEP WINDOWS CLOSED: Do this whenever possible, even at home at night and when you are out driving in the car, as this will help you to avoid coming into contact with pollen. It is especially important during the early morning and evening, when pollen is released.”

JELLY GOOD: A handy tub of Vaseline or petroleum jelly can really help sufferers while on the go. Some people find that putting a little smear of Vaseline inside each nostril can help to ease soreness — as well as stop pollen in its tracks.

Giselle adds: “Opting for a large tub of own-brand petroleum jelly can save you a few quid compared to smaller, handbag-sized tubs. I like the Fred & Flo Petroleum Jelly, 150ml, £1.50 at Tesco. It is cheaper than a 20g tin of Vaseline Lip Therapy, £1 at Boots.

BEWARE LAUNDRY: The recent warmer weather may have inspired you to hang washed clothes and bedding outside to dry a bit more. But items may gather pollen — especially at times when the count is high — and then irritate hayfever sufferers when later brought inside.

GO NATURAL: As well as medicines to prevent and ease hayfever, there are more natural ways to alleviate symptoms — and Lloyds Pharmacy currently has a “buy one get one half price” deal on selected products.
