A second Planet Fitness center is expected to go into operation in Broome County this spring.
The new fitness club is to be located in the Price Chopper plaza at 10 Glenwood Avenue on the West Side of Binghamton.
The facility will occupy about 21,000 square feet in a building just off Charlotte Street at the east end of the shopping center.
The space has been vacant since October 2017, when a retail store operated by Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and New Jersey closed.
The Planet Fitness franchise will be operated by ECP-PF Holdings Group of Connecticut, which now has 100 fitness club facilities in the United States and Canada.
A representative of the franchisee said renovation work at the Binghamton site should start next month. The new “open gym” fitness facility could open around May.
