How to choose the right at-home fitness program for you – FIU News

By David Jenkins

Whether you enjoy high intensity workouts, group fitness or need variety to keep your progress going, there are at-home fitness program options for you. Here are my top fitness apps and platforms to help you choose your program.

App Store

Freeletics is a bodyweight fitness app that has tons of free features as well as paid options. It is available on iOS and Android devices.

Here is what you can expect with Freeletics: a weekly workout with a comment and like section similar to social media, dozens of free workout plans with filters to help you narrow results, as well as the option for personal training and coaching.

Freeletics also has two additional features that make it a great app under our current circumstances. Each workout earns you points, which increases your profile level; it’s a great way to track progress and aid in goal setting as it gives you something to look forward to and a challenge.

The app also features informational videos coined “Mindset Coaching,” where you can listen to guidance videos on training, mind, health and nutrition.

YouTube

FIU WRC The FIU Wellness and Recreation Center (WRC) has dedicated much of its recent content toward group fitness and at-home techniques to exercise, some of which is hosted on its YouTube channel. Look for a growing collection of informative fitness videos that can be recreated from the comfort of your home.

24 Hour Fitness This channel has “24GO LIVE,” which gives you 24/7 access to live at-home workouts and a community to help stay fit during these unique times. The live feed provides zumba, spartan, full body, pop pilates, senior workouts and more every day.

Instagram

@fiuhlp (FIU’s Healthy Living Program); Diet is a part of your fitness program as is your overall wellbeing. The Healthy Living Program (HLP) presents information that can aid in your search particularly if you are interested in the yoga and meditation realm of fitness. You likely will not derive your program from the HLP Instagram but the information can be best used to supplement the program you decide on.
