UPPER MERION — Upper Merion Police and Montgomery County Detectives are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of LA Fitness in the King of Prussia Town Center that occurred Friday, Feb. 28, shortly before 10 p.m.

According to a report issued by Upper Merion police Chief Thomas Nolan, police and EMS responded to a report of a shooting in the fitness center’s parking lot. When officers arrived on scene they discovered a male on on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper body. EMS treated and transported the victim to Paoli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between the victim and the alleged shooter on the basketball court inside the fitness center. During the dispute int he parking lot, both men fired shots from handguns, with the victim being struck in the upper body. According to police, the man who fired the fatal round was questioned by police and police believe there is no one else involved in the shooting, and there is no danger to the community.

The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
