- Know how coffee can help you lose weight, and how much coffee should you drink in a day
New Delhi: The coronavirus outbreak led to a nation-wide lockdown to curb its spread, and it has been a while since all of us have been working from home. Consumer trends show that the consumption of coffee and tea has gone up, perhaps because working from home comes with its own set of challenges – like the bed luring you for a mid-day nap.
Coffee is considered a healthy beverage, though it depends on how you make it and consume it. However, drinking too much coffee is also not recommended as it can lead to some problems like insomnia. Black coffee is often hailed as a great pre-workout drink to keep you energised through your exercise routine. So while you try to ensure that you do not gain weight during this lockdown, where should you draw the line when it comes to your favourite beverage?
Black coffee can help in weight loss
Black coffee is known as a catalyst for weight loss. It contains zero calories, fat, or cholesterol. It contains antioxidants, the caffeine helps in boosting metabolism, and black coffee can help you exercise a little harder as it keeps you energised. Black coffee can also help you reduce water weight.
However, you must remember that all these benefits of coffee can only be availed when it is brewed only with water – without other additives like sugar, cream, milk, etc. If you add these things to your coffee, you will end up increasing the calorie content of your beverage, which will not help with your goal.
How much coffee should you drink for weight loss
While some research shows that caffeine is good for your body, even when you are drinking black coffee, without the calories and fat, you must try to refrain your consumption to not more than 2 cups of coffee a day.
While it may have certain short term benefits like helping you curb appetite, giving you more energy for a workout, speeding up metabolism, etc, drinking more than 2 cups of coffee is not a part of a healthy diet. Another thing to remember is that just drinking coffee will not help you lose weight. Coffee may act as a catalyst to speed up the process, but a healthy, balanced diet, regular exercise, and portion control are extremely important for weight loss.
